Polperro

South East Cornwall on Your Doorstep

Explore the Local Area

From the harbour at Looe to the winding lanes of Polperro, West Wayland puts you at the heart of one of Cornwall’s most beautiful stretches of coastline.

On Our Doorstep

Two of Cornwall’s Finest Villages, Minutes Away

West Wayland is located on the south Cornish coast, equidistant between the fishing port of Looe and the charming village of Polperro, both a 5 to 10 minute drive away.

Looe, a town with a population of 5,500, has a family-friendly beach, a great range of places to eat, drink and shop, and a host of boat trips and water sports for all the family to enjoy. Divided by the river into East and West Looe, there is so much to discover in this historic town, with many of the old buildings dating to the 15th century. From Looe, you can also visit Looe Island, owned by the Cornish Wildlife Trust. Steeped in history and myths of smugglers and skulduggery, the 20 minute crossing by boat transports you to a different world.

Polperro, our smaller neighbour, is a quintessential Cornish village with white-washed cottages and narrow lanes lined with shops, boutiques, ancient pubs and galleries. The jewel in the crown is the harbour, one of the best preserved in Cornwall.

Polperro

Both Looe and Polperro are served by the local bus network, with a stop right at the entrance to West Wayland. We are also just a 30 to 40 minute walk to Talland Bay, home to the Talland Bay Hotel, the Smuggler’s Rest Café and Talland Bay Beach Café, and the point at which you can join the South West Coast Path.

There is so much to see, do and explore right on our doorstep. The Welcome to Looe & Polperro website is a great resource for planning your stay at West Wayland.

A Little Further Afield

South East Cornwall covers an area from the Fowey River in the west to the Tamar River (which divides Cornwall and Devon) to the east. There are so many hidden coves, beaches and harbours to explore in between, many of which are dog-friendly too. Some of our favourites can be found here.

Inland, Bodmin Moor and its rugged granite-studded landscape gives a whole new perspective. Where once copper, granite and iron ore were transported by rail to Looe for export, now the landscape is raw and worn, with stunning views towards both the south and north coast of the county.

Gateway to Cornwall

Within 15 minutes of West Wayland you can join the main arterial roads that connect you to the whole of our wonderful county.

Whether exploring the Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan, taking a bike ride on the Camel Trail, visiting Bodmin Jail, or travelling further to discover the north and south coast towns of Padstow, Newquay, Falmouth and Penzance, as well as our only city, Truro, you could not be better placed for day trips or onward journeys.
